Ghost Towns


Danaher- Heyday in 1910, named after the Danaher lumber company. 1/2 mile north of M-28where Luce Co. Rd. 421 crosses the tracks.

Seewhy - Along the same railroadtracks as Danaher, half way between Eckerman and Hulbert.  C.Y. Bennettowned a sawmill and general store there and named the town after himself. 1915 - 1927.

Corinne - West of Gould City, anold store and boarding house has been restored.  Was once a Corinne supplyCo.  in town, henceforth the name, though was called Vine or Viola on themaps.

Shelldrake - Halfway betweenParadise and Whitefish Point.  Founded in the 1890's, and first namedEdwards after the first settler.  Later renamed after the ShelldrakeDuck.  Flourished until a fire in 1910, and the post office lasted until1922.

Emerson - Named after ChrisEmerson, a millionaire from Saginaw.  Founded in 1882, alive until1939.  Found at the mouth of the Tahquamenon River inTahquamenon Parks, State Park.

Vermilion - A lighthouse west ofWhitefish Point Coast Guard built building in 1939, but abandoned it in 1943.

Soo Junction - Always been arail road town,  Opened in 1893,  ten years later added a boardinghouse and saloon.  North of M-28 on Co. Rd. 381.

High Island  - Go toNaubinway, then go by boat to High Island,  Has been sanctuary forreligious sect or two, remnants of houses still remain.

Fayette State Park- is alsoconsidered a ghost town.
